To Cathy

My Valentine’s an English Rose
Honey-sweet from head to toes
On the Heath she comes and goes
Collecting stones, and predisposed,
When strangers pass, to say hello.

I love her songs and tremolos
I love her frills and furbelows
I love her face, I love her clothes
I love the garden where she grows
Geraniums and climbing rose.

I love her fast, I love her slow
I love her high, I love her low
I love her ebbs, I love her flows
I love her ahs, I love her ohs
I love the love that she bestows.

Soon I’ll come to you my doe,
We’ll be like Juliet and Romeo
Except we’ll never know their woes
For you’re the one I’m glad I chose
My darling petal ’ Catherine Rose.
